Once upon a time, I got up at 5:40 A.M. (8:40 in Wisconsin) to take a shower and eat breakfast. After breakfast, my family and I walked over to the Hilton Hotel to catch a bus to Iditarod Headquarters. All of the veterinarians from the area and many others from around the country came to a mandatory check-up for the dogs to make sure that they are in prime condition for the race. Next, we hopped on the bus and rode to a place called Settlers Bay Lodge where we had a delicious lunch and then hit the road. Then we rode to Martin Buser's kennel and interacted with the dogs. We learned a lot about dogs and the Iditarod. [Editor's note: Martin Buser is a four-time Iditarod champion. http://www.buserdog.com/]
